Northeastern South Dakota Recovering after Storm

By KSFY News

Here are some of the reports from today's early morning wind, rain and hail storm that hit northeastern South Dakota.

The storm included a wind gust reported at 115 miles an hour in Grant County and one of 101 miles an hour at the Aberdeen landfill.  Many reports were received of wind speeds of 70-80 miles an hour.  Authorities say a lumber yard and cabinet shop were damaged in Webster and that a tree fell on a cabin at Buster's Resort near Webster.

Brown County emergency management officials reported some house fires due to downed power lines.  The wind reportedly blew away some sheds and porches, and a semi overturned between Webster and Waubay, with others reported near Milbank.  The storm destroyed a mobile home in the Groton area, and reports were received of roofs blown off several barns.

At Columbia, in Brown County, officials report the old school gym was destroyed and a tree went through the roof of a house.  Other reports were received of trees falling on houses and cars in the area.  At Pickerel Lake State Park, 50- to 60-foot-tall cottonwoods were felled and large round hay bales were moved up to 700 yards by the high winds.

My thoughts are with you who have to go through such ordeal, but be happy and thankful that you are all safe, healthly and okay . It doesn't matter what kind of home you have, if God wants to take it he will. You don't have to have money or be poor. I don't go to see people's homes, I go to see the people. I don't care how you live, it's your love that you give.

My dad owns Buster's Resort. A tree did not fall on a cabin. The wind actually picked the building up, with my sister & niece inside & hurled it 100 yards across the parking lot. They sustained minor injuries. Numerous other buildings on the property were destroyed in the same manor.
