A 10-year-prison sentence - the maximum allowed - has been handed down to a Brookings County man who has been arrested for driving under the influence seven times.

At Tuesday's sentencing for 48-year-old David Leamons, Brookings County State's Attorney Clyde Calhoon said Leamons' blood-alcohol content when he was arrested was almost 0.29 - more than three times the legal limit.  Leamons was arrested August 11 in Brookings on his fifth felony DUI. He had two prior misdemeanor convictions as well.

Judge Vincent Foley also revoked Leamons' driver's license for life.

Good job Judge Foley! Everyone has mistakes in their lives they regret having done, but usually figure it out as they mature. Apparently he did not get the message. Ten years might do him some good along with some good counsel and rehab. At least you got him before he killed someone. Life is hard and confusing at times but you need to find the right road to travel on and sometimes you need help!

Why did it take him 7 DUI's to get his license revoked for life? ALSO only 10 years! I personally think after 7 you should be put away for life... obviously you are a drunk and a hazard to everyone around you.

The way that I see it is that you can take his license away for life, but do you really think that is going to make him stop driving when he gets out??? Highly doubtful!!!! People like that never learn, and if he's that big of a drunk, ten years isn't gonna do anything for him, but having liver disease will eventually get the better of him.
