Mitchell Police Respond to Bank Robbery and Bomb Threat

By KSFY News

A busy afternoon in Mitchell as police deal with a reported bank robbery and a bomb threat.

Authorities were called to the Mitchell WalMart just before 2pm and evacuated the store because of a bomb threat.  Shortly after that, they received a call about a bank robbery at CorTrust Bank on Main Street in Mitchell.

Public Safety Chief Lyndon Overweg says the robber was armed with a gun.

The suspect is described as a white man about 6 feet tall, and about 170 pounds.  He was wearing a baseball cap, maroon flannel shirt and blue jeans.  The man also had on a fake black beard and fake glasses.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Mitchell Police.

Authorities have not said if the two events are related.

Was there a camera that got a picture of the guy, or will it be like the Redfield Bank and we will never see a picture?

With today's economy it seems more and more are losing any common sense they had. This seems like a desparate act to try and solve desparate problems in a personal life. I doubt ss another viewer said, that he knew what he was doing. They'll (the police) catch whoever it is.

How can a person logically think the two events weren't related?? Like Tom wrote...this guy knew what he was doing, and had most of the cops on the other side of town at the same time he did the robbery.

Well he did to some extent but someone should have told him to make sure he had a get away car instead of running through mitchell being chased by the cops....although he still managed to get away....lol

Hmmm I wonder if Wondering even looked at this article? Does it not have a picture. I am so very glad that the Mitchel Police Dept. has a person that wants to work for them. Why is it that everytime we have a dumb criminal story the local Police always get them blame? I am proud of every man and woman who serves their community at this level. They put their life on the line daily for you and I. Shame on you for being the way you are. All law enforcement people should be praised!!!!!! GREAT JOB!!

Can't you figure out the two incidents are related? If the cops are on one end of town, it would be easy to make a clean getaway. Let's do something to him when he is caught (if ever caught). Don't just slap his fingers and let him out on the streets again. He will never learn so should be delt with and put away for a long long time.

Shut up people, I don't think the police could have done any better. Bomb threats have to be taken seriously, so the cops had no other choice. Actually, the same thing happened in Brookings a long time ago.. The guy got away on a bicycle, and they never did catch him!
