The "Lyon County Casino & Golf Resort" was approved in a vote Tuesday.

By Robert Wilson

At Anne's Coffee House and Cafe in Rowena, Anne says the resort would be a mixed blessing.

"The good side of it would be the jobs, the Convention Center, what it brings to the community," said Anne Pedersen.

This is a community between Sioux Falls and the proposed location and many residents don't like the project.

But developers say the resort would benefit the entire region.

"It's in a great location because it boarders South Dakota and very close to Minnesota," said Sharon Haselhoff, PR Director For Riverside Casino.

All the permits could be in place and ready to break ground by spring 2010.

"And if everything goes perfect, you could see a resort in Lyon County probably fall of 2011," said Haselhoff.

If that happened, the resort could be hiring up to 400 employees by spring or summer of 2011.

If that happened, developers say Lyon County would also get 1.5 million dollars directly from the facility.

They say the economic development would be huge, bring dollars from outside the region to northwest Iowa and maybe even provide a some jobs to South Dakotans willing to make the drive.

"Anytime you add jobs to an area I think it's beneficial," said Anne.

The project would be located near Larchwood, Iowa.

Developers say besides the 400 jobs created, it would also generate about 1.4 million dollars a year in tax revenue.
