Some Saving Money Eating Lunch in the Park

By Robert Wilson

With an economic crisis looming, you might be looking for ways to save money where ever you can. For some that means taking a different approach to lunch time. Instead of going out, some of you are choosing to pack a sack lunch. And many say it's no sacrifice at all.

Like most of us, Shirley Stark is looking for ways to cut back. Everything seems to be more expensive now. "Grocery shopping, filling up with gas. You know, those things you took for granted before."

But shirley's found a way to save money, get some fresh air and get away from the phones and other distraction at the office. She packs her lunch and comes to Sertoma Park. She likes this more than eating out. "Cause that's what I used to do, you know. I used to go out to lunch everyday and, it was getting to be like 25 dollars a week."

Sharon Evens has been eating her lunch at the park for about 4 years. "During the summer months there are a lot of us that come out and sit over the lunch hours." Sharon says there were more people out here this summer than she'd ever seen before. She's not sure if it's because of the economy or not.

Shirley just says it's a great way to get away from the office, and, "25 dollars I can spend somewhere else."
