SD's Electoral College Votes Will Be Cast Next Month

By Associated Press

South Dakota's three Electoral College votes for John McCain will be officially cast Dec. 15 in the Capitol.

McCain, the Republican candidate, won the South Dakota election but lost the national race to Democrat Barack Obama.

Gov. Mike Rounds, Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard and Attorney General Larry Long will cast the state's electoral votes for McCain. All three are Republicans who were chosen by GOP colleagues to be listed as the Republican electors on the general election ballot.

Secretary of State Chris Nelson said copies of the cast votes will go to the National Archives and the others to the U.S. House and U.S. Senate, which will count the votes in January.
