Interest is high in an upcoming vacancy on the South Dakota Supreme Court.

Press Secretary for Gov. Mike Rounds, Mitch Krebs, says about a dozen names have been forwarded to the governor for consideration as a replacement for retiring Justice Richard W. Sabers.

Sabers turned 70 in February. That is the mandatory retirement age for state Supreme Court justices.

Rounds is reviewing the list of potential replacements from the Judicial Qualifications Commission, and Krebs says there is no timetable to make the appointment.

Sabers has been on the Supreme Court since 1986. He had earlier
spent nearly 20 years as a trial lawyer in Sioux Falls.
