Minnehaha County Getting Armored Vehicle

Minnehaha County is adding an expensive vehicle to its fleet to protect its law officers and the public.

County commissioners have approved the purchase of a $261,000
tactical armored vehicle. The truck is designed to withstand the force of bombs, like vehicles used by the Army in Iraq.

Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel says the vehicle has been in long-range plans for several years.

He says the armored vehicle will be used in specialized situations, such as last summer when someone shot at an officer.

Money to buy the vehicle comes from the Department of Homeland
Security. It is expected to be delivered within four or five months.

People are losing jobs, prices on everything are sky high, and the city of Sioux Falls buys this abomination?? Where are you priorities Mayor Munson?? We don't need an armored vehicle here in Sioux Falls like they NEED in Baghdad dealing with roadside bombs. The SF Police Department sure do love their toys, don't they?? Let's hear some justification about spending 250K on something that will get used twice a year if that. What a joke.

I think this is a waste of money. Give law enforcement a raise and more training.
