Tenants Talk About Assault

Two tenants of a Sioux Falls duplex who were allegedly threatened by their landlord with a shotgun early Sunday morning say they fear for their lives.

The incident happened at 501 North Franklin Avenue in central Sioux Falls just before 2 a.m.

Russell Dean Olson is being held on two counts of aggravated assault after he reportedly made threats against the two tenants. The SWAT team was called in to make the arrest, because after the alleged threat, Olson went back into his apartment next door and officers couldn't contact him.

The tenants, Robert Reed and Janell Cargill tell us Olson tried to beat down their door when he had the gun and they say he's been threatening them since he gave them an eviction notice last month.

Janell Cargill says, "I just got out of the hospital today. I suffered another mild heart attack over this. The stress of him actually coming to try to attack us. I am in fear of my life."

Cargill and Reed say they have disputed their eviction notice because it isn't valid.
