State health officials caution people, it's not too late to get a flu shot.

By Associated Press

The state Health Department says South Dakota's first flu-associated death of the season has been reported.

The victim lived in Davison County and was 80 to 89 years old. The department says the person had influenza A and other chronic
health conditions.

State Epidemiologist Dr. Lon Kightlinger says the flu season seemed to start slowly but that the death is a reminder of how
serious the disease can be.

Kightlinger says there's still time to get a flu shot and be protected for the rest of the season. He says there's no way to
tell how long or how severe the current flu season will be.

South Dakota had 22 influenza-related deaths last year.
