This Sioux Falls group meets once a week to study meditation.

By Brian Allen

For years, the art of meditation has been viewed by many with some skepticism.

But now an estimated 10 million americans say they regularly meditate to reduce the stress in their life.

And medical studies, such as one recently from UCLA, find meditation can improve your health.

The group meets once a week inside a downtown Sioux Falls building, looking for a way to reduce the anxiety that comes with these hectic times.

"So just close your eyes, make sure you're nice and comfortable..." If it weren't for our TV lighting, this room would be nearly pitch black, lit only by a few candles here and there.
The only sound would be some light music and the voice of Cena Keller and she leads this meditation class.

"I think people like the idea of looking for some calm..." Carol Draper has been involved involved in meditation for three years now and tells me it clears the mind of worry and stress and opens the doors to creativity. "You're so stacked up and you have so little tension in your body that inspiration can enter your body and can free your heart and free your spirit." According to the university of massachusetts, meditation can ease high blood pressure, help those with breathing problems and help control depression and anxiety.

I gave this class a try and was amazed as the world melted away and the only thing I focused on was the class: my stress melted away and i ended up feeling much more relaxed than before.
