Rancher Announces Bid for SD GOP Gubernatorial Nomination

Ken Knuppe

A man who operates a ranch near Buffalo Gap said Thursday he wants the Republican nomination to run for governor of South Dakota in 2010.

Ken Knuppe, a past president of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association, kicked off his campaign with a speech at the Rapid City Civic Center.

Knuppe says he wants to return the government to the people, adding that it's not just for wealthy people or for families that have been in politics for generations. The rancher says it should be run so that everyone can understand it and take part in it. He says the current state of the economy poses difficult challenges that will require fiscal conservatism, smaller government and fewer taxes.
