Teen Dead, Police Identify Person of Interest

By Melissa Stee

Watertown police are investigating the death of an 18-year old-girl. Her body was found in her grandmother's home at 603 First Avenue in Watertown early Friday morning.

Police are looking for a person of interest, 21-year old David Lumwano Amotun. He may be driving a truck that had been parked at the scene of the homicide. It's described as a 1996 Chevy Silverado extended cab pickup, white in color with a black bed cover, oversized tires and an american flag and eagle emblem in the rear window. It has a South Dakota license plate number 1RE064.

The neighborhood was covered in yellow tape and it drew a lot of onlookers. Many said the news shocked and saddened them.

Watertown resident Johnny Johnson says, "I can't believe it would happen here. I've been here a year. There's no crimes here. This is surprising."

Investigators are working inside the home late Friday night. They aren't releasing the name of the woman who was found dead, but they have identified 21 year old David Amotun as a person of interest.

Police say Amotun has other warrants out for his arrest. They say he and the victim were acquaintances.

While investigators piece together what happened in this Watertown neighborhood, family members say they are also looking for answers. Those from the community say they can't imagine facing this situation themselves.

Johnny Johnson says, "Well I wouldn't know what to do. I'd be lost. I'd break down in tears."

Can we just drop this 'person of interest' stuff and just say he did it already?
