By Associated Press

Midwestern governors want the Obama administration to reduce barriers to developing alternative fuels and wind energy, key pieces of economic development in their home states.

Iowa Governor Chet Culver, a Democrat, and Republican Governors John Hoeven of North Dakota, Mike Rounds of South Dakota and Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota said they urged the administration to take several steps to help develop biofuels and wind energy.

They want the EPA to approve the use of biofuels with 13 percent ethanol blends and remove marketing barriers to E85 ethanol.

They also want a national renewable electricity standard and tax incentives for wind power.

The governors were in Washington Monday for meetings of the National Governors Association.
