A standoff which lasted seven-and-a-half hours came to an end just before 10 o'clock Tuesday night at the Fryn' Pan restaurant at 12th and Western in Sioux Falls.

The standoff started just before 2:30 when a still unidentified man entered the restaurant with a gun and told everyone inside to get out. Sioux Falls Police soon responded to the scene, backed up by the Sioux Falls SWAT Team.

Officer Sam Clemens tells Action News, police department negotiators spent the afternoon and the evening talking with the man. At one point during the evening, the man with the gun walked outside the restaurant briefly to get a breath of fresh air before returning inside the restaurant.

Just before 10 o'clock, the man walked outside the restaurant and surrendered to police. His name is not being released tonight.

but see, if someone would have shot him in the head he wouldnt be able to get out of jail. he would be gone. He came into a business establishment and start waving a gun around at innocent people, that is certainly NOT legal. What do you expect them to do? let him walk away free? get a clue.

I cant believe some of your comments. That is what is wrong with this county. instead of trying to help people we always just jump to throwing them in jail. SOmeone, please tell me how throwing someone with a mental condition in jail is going to help anything in the long run? Thats why people get out and commit another crime. We put nothing into helping them just lock em up and that should fix them. Well i don't always believe that works
