At approximately 9:30 Saturday morning, a two car accident in McPherson County resulted in the death of 69-year-old Harvey Kempf from Forbes, ND.

According to a press release, Kempf was driving north in his '94 Dodge when a South Dakota man driving a propane truck struck his vehicle.  Kempf was not wearing his seatbelt. The truck driver was not injured.

The crash happened at the intersection of 101st St. and 373rd Ave, 2 miles to the southeast of Forbes, North Dakota.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.

Senior citizens are dangerous behind the wheel, bottom line. Revoking driving privlidges after the age of 65 should be on the next ballot. Again, it's a privledge, not a right, to be on our highways.

Agreed! So is anyone under 25, then there are those 30 year olds that think they know everything, but what about when you turn 40, OMG, 50 maybe, but after that REVOKE!! HELLO......

Didn't the report say the 69 year old man was hit by someone else? So it looks like the other driver was at fault, not Mr. Kempf.

I think we should wait for the final accident analysis before jumping to conclusions on both ends here. The accident is under investigation, as the story says. So before we say who caused this accident and point blame, lets just wait for the investigation to wrap up. This is SAD that people have to point fingers at each other in the wake of a tragic accident when the investigation is not even complete.

are you people crazy.....look at the ages of many who are involved in accidents. It is not just the young or elderly. How about all the drunken idiots who kill themselves or others?

Are You Crazy??? Age has nothing to do with how a person drives!! May we should take everyone that uses their cell phones while driving and revoke their drivers license!! Or how about everyone under 21 that way they can learn to be responsible before we give them a driver's license to begin with!!

My point exactly, what is written is called sarcasm.

This isn't the place to discuss senior citizens driving, drunks driving, or cell phone usage while driving. why must you guys point fingers and cause arguments under a story that has no direct relation to any of those scenarios....again...SAD people have to talk about stuff like this under such a heading of this story. if you want progress on this issue, talk to you local lawmakers, not argue amongst yourselves.

All this points to is the fact that a seat belt may have saved his life. Seat belts are the issue!!! Not age or blame.

Anyone who doesn't want Seniors on the road will change their tune if they're tasked with driving them around when needed.

You think it would be adviseable to do a special renewal of there South Dakota drivers license, with special tasks invloved such as reflex reaction times ect....along with normal up to date eye's & hearing..To keep there drivers license.. Remember it's a privledge to drive on our nations highways..These tests should help weed out the drivers that should not be on the open road system...Just a thought!

I was hit at a stop light by a Logging Truck and it Broke my Neck and they said I wasn't warring my set belt until they discoverd my Hip Cartlage in my Right hip was torn up and the only thing that could have done it was the Set Belt being on was the only thing that could have caused it. By the way, i'm 67 and thats the second time in Four years I've bin hit at a Stop light and the Drivers were BOTH under 40. Us people that are above 50 are the one's doing the speed limit and in your way. Jurk.

"Just a thought", I see your point, but I think we should make it tougher to get/renew licenses for everybody-look at the high speed chase story-young kid!( Along with countless others we read about every week!) Oh,I am 29, and that is my opinion.

My Uncle Harvey was a good man...he lived an honorable legacy. Tragedies like this tear a hole in your life. I'm sure the one at fault will be found with the current investigation but that knowledge will not bring him back. It IS sad that he wasn't wearing a seatbelt but I cannot judge him because I'm not perfect when I'm on the road.

I would like to check in with all that think seniors should have there licence revoked when they are 50 60 or even 65. I would bet they wouldn't be saying take my licence from me now I'm old when they get that age. Oh and by the way I am only 30. Accidents can happen at any age to anyone.

I dont agree with the age discussion. At only 20 I hope I never lose my license but I do think there should be a mandatory re exam every 5 years reguardless of age.

Please remember when posting comments to this story that someone died in this accident. Regardless to whom the fault is placed we have all made errors on the road regardless of age. Again, please be respectful when commenting as people are grieving on both sides of this accident. Thank you.
