Matt and Rowena Scahde say they went on the run with their 2 kids for 17 days because they feared the state of Nebraska was going to take their children from them.

New pictures from the Knox County, Nebraska Sheriff of Matt and Rowena Schade.
Both are in custody tonight and are set to appear in court next week.

Authorities caught up with the Schade family yesterday at an abandoned cabin just northwest of Creighton, Nebraska; their 17 days on the run from the law and everyone else is over.

Tonight, what we know about the two Schade children and what they told investigators about their time on the road.

The two kids, 11 year old Devon and 8 year old Sean, were interviewed separately by Nebraska Health and Human Services agents but both of them told the same story: that they were never forced to go on the road, that the decision was made as a family and that while they were on the road their parents, Matt and Rowena, took care of them, made sure they were fed and even continued their home schooling lessons.

The kids right now remain in the protective custody of law enforcement.

As to why the family abruptly left their Creighton home in the first place, Matt and Rowena Schade have told investigators there was concern that the state would step in and take their kids from them, though why they were concerned about that is unknown.

Both Matt and Rowena Schade are in custody tonight and are scheduled to have court hearings next week in regards to probation violations and some burglary cases the couple may or may not be connected to.

Rowena Schade is under 10-thousand dollars bond:  We do not know what type of bond Matt Schade faces right now.

One note: investigators are quick to say all of the Schades are in good physical condition and there is no evidence the kids were neglected or otherwise abused.

Investigators also say despite the cold and snowy conditions the Schade's camped in while on the run, their camping gear was such that they were fully protected from the elements.

Wow, they took care of their kids while on the run? Way to go parents of the year! CPS was called for a reason, they ran for a reason. These people broke probation, stole a vehicle and broke into peoples homes and cabins and even lived in one for a while. These people are not honorable or sane. They will for sure lose their kids now for a while at least. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Running was going to HELP?

So you teach the kids how to break and enter and how to steal vehicles. Nice job as parents.

So instead of facing the charges you run and hide and do more crimes. What idiots.
