Grassfire Scorches Land Near Valley Springs

By Cliff Chandler and Derick Fabert

A grassfire that started at 265th Street and 487th Ave. has burned about 8 acres and continues to burn some spots of land near shelter belts near the Valley Springs.

The fire was reportedly started by a farmer who was burning some brush near his field.  The fire quickly got our of control.  The farmer recieved some second and third degree burns as a result of trying to put out the blaze.  The Brandon Fire Department assisted in fighting this fire.

The Valley Springs Fire Department also assisted the Brandon Fire Department on a seperate fire just south of Brandon near Aspen Bvld.  The fire burned about 15 acres in that area, but was soon put out by both departments.
