Bridgewater Votes to Consolidate with Emery

Tuesday was election day in various South Dakota cities and school districts.

Voters in the Bridgewater School District approved consolidating with neighboring Emery. The vote was 269-217. The districts already share administration, programs and staff members.

In the Winner district, 70 percent of those who went to the polls voted against a proposed property tax opt-out. Had the measure passed, educational programs would have received another $500,000 over the next three years.

Officials say the district now will consider cutting come programs and extracurricular activities.
