Huron Police: Victim & Shooter Knew Each Other

Law enforcement authorities in Huron are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Thursday afternoon at the Prairie Villa Trailer Court #151.

This trailer court is located in the southwest corner of Huron. According to police a woman placed a 911 call to police dispatch center at 5:31 PM stating that someone had tried to break into their home and that the intruder may have been shot.

Upon arrival police discovered the body of Ricardo " RJ " Hein, age 23, of Huron dead at the scene. At this time authorities continue to investigate and interview persons involved in this case.

There have been no arrests made at this time and that the victim and shoot had known each other. Huron Police Chief Doug Schmidtt noted that this is the third homicide this year, and in all of three cases the parties knew each other.

The Chief stresses that these are isolated incidents and that the public should not be in fear for their safety. Yesterday’s incident is being investigated by the Huron Police Dept. the division of Criminal Investigation, the Beadle County Sherriff’s Office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

i am R.J.'s second cousin and i would like to add to all this that R.J. had seen his fair share of trouble in his life and if all of you knew the details of how he grew up and things he went through its a little understandable, people have problems at times and do wrong things, thats how life goes sometimes... i very much so agree witht he guy thats says they need to investigate if he was really trying to break in cause i doubt that highly, and the wife of a man who shoots somebody 4

It would be interesting to see if the authorities will truly investigate this. I heard witnesses said he was let into the home (how can that be a breakin?). If that is the case maybe the shooter was lying in wait for RJ. Makes sense to me. Wifes always backup husbands especially felons with a gun.

The truth is, most of these comments are void. At this time NOBODY has enough facts to judge any part of this situation. Opinions are just that. My heart goes out to the numerous victims involved in this tragedy. Too bad we live in a community, city, county, state, and nation so quickly to judge.
