Huron Murder Update

Police continue to investigate a shooting that's left one man dead. Late this afternoon, Action News has learned a few more details explaining just what happened.

According to Huron Police Chief Doug Schmitt, Police found 23 year old Ricardo "R.J." Hein lying dead at a mobile home park in the southwest side of town. They actually found the body of Hein lying in a driveway, but exactly where the shooting happened has not be released.

Police have also told us that a woman called 911 at just after 5 PM saying someone tried to break into a home and that the intruder might have been shot.

We also know that the man who fired the gun knew Hein. Investigators are questioning people about any contact the two men had before the shooting.

Props to whoever posted this, Regardless of the circumstances, people lost someone they loved. RJ was a son, a brother, a father, and loved by many. As far as the bar comment, that's always the first rumor in Huron. In the 80s my cousin broke a rib at work and didn't come in the next day, and half the plant swore they had seen him in every bar in town the night before. Huron is rumor central. Every time somebody gets sent to a Sioux Falls hospital, the rumors of their impending death get back to Huron before they do. I suggest we all chill out and wait for the FACTS to come out.

From what I was just told this John guy was down at hurst corner last night laughing and joking about how he is going to get off without being charged with anything. rj tried to start a fight with him earlier in the day. Dude ran rj over with his truck, rj went to ER were he was checked and released. After that he went to dudes house, and I doubt it was for small talk. Guess he should have thought twice about doing that.

Their are alot of stories out there but I have not heard anyone dispute that RJ & John were both using drugs. From what I gathered RJ went there asking for money owed him for drugs John had bought. John didn't have the money & RJ threatened John with a knife & his family too. John shot him several times with his shot gun. That doesn't really sound like self defense to shot someone 4 times. I live in Huron and I am not concerned for my safety or my kids because of the recent 3 shootings. What I am concerned about it the drug traffic in this town. Unless the drug use gets brought under control we will have more drug related crimes but at least so far they have kept it between the other drug users/dealers. It's a tragedy that someone was killed & that the wife & kids of the shooter will loose their husband/dad over this.

What ever happened to being innocent until proven guilty? Calling the shooting a murder is premature and implies that the alleged shooter is guilty. This is very biased reporting and the article was very poorly written. KSFY should post who writes their articles. It would help hold their writing staff accountable.
