MN Puts Schools On Alert For Swine Flu

The World Health Organization has raised its pandemic alert for swine flu to the second highest level, saying a pandemic is "imminent". This comes on the same day that the state of Minnesota reported a probable case of swine flu, causing two schools in the state to close. The schools are in Cold Spring, Minnesota, which is southwest of St. Cloud. The test came from a female at Rocori Middle School, which caused it to close it's doors on Wednesday. The neighboring catholic school also closed it's doors.sample was flown on a state plane to the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia for a definitive test.The state of Minnesota is also working to keep the lines of communication open with schools all over the state. Action News anchor Brian Allen traveled to Luverne, Minnesota and sat down with Luverne superintendent Gary Fisher about the statewide alert. Fisher says it's important teachers, students and parents not panic. He says school districts statewide were informed just this afternoon of the probable flu infection in Cold SpringFisher has a very specific flu fear where the Luverne school district is concerned. All 1,100 Pre-K-12th grade students attend class on one campus. Fisher says he is worried if a student were to become affected with this flu strain it could move through the districts entire student body in no time.
