Man Shot By COP Identified

By Troy Timmerman

Richard Bissonette was shot by a Tribal Police Officer near Enemy Swim Lake on Friday night.

He later died at Avera Saint Luke's in Aberdeen.

KSFY Action News talked to family members and residents of Enemy Swim.

"He was a little shy. He was a shy kid. You probably wouldn't notice him in a room unless you asked him something. He was that kind of kid. He was a good kid. He loved to listen to his music. He was a very respectful guy. He wouldn't hurt a fly. He was pretty gentle with his nieces and nephews," said Curtis Bissonette, Richard's brother.

"He was just a young guy, and I am sorry to see what happened. I feel for his family," said Andy Grey, a lifelong resident of Enemy Swim.

"It's not just felt with us. It is felt in this community and his surroundings. It's not just here in Enemy Swim. It's in Sisseton. It's on the reservation. We're closer now. Each of us is giving each other support, and that's what we need right now. We need to come together and stay strong for each other," said Curtis. "I just want people to remember him as being a nice, good, caring guy. I wouldn't be saying it if it wasn't the truth. That's what I want people to remember. He was a good kid."
