Less than a week ago Second Chance Rescue center rescued over two dozen dogs from rural Flandreau, SD. The center said many of the dogs had little if any food and water.
Action News reporter Valerie Gutierrez has an update about the dogs and what you can do to help.
Many of you have been wondering about the 39 dogs seized by Second Chance Rescue center and Moody County Sheriff's Deputies six days ago at a property in Flandreau. So we went to check up on the dogs since then six puppies have been born.
"They seem to be a lot happier than when we took them in," said Rosie Quinn, Director of Second Chance Rescue.
Officer Rosie Quinn says right now the dogs are considered states evidence in the case against the owner who goes before the judge on May 27th.
"It was just a despicable situation that they were in."
But last week the dogs owner told action news that the dogs were treated well, but officer quinn said they were neglected and covered in mud and fece, that's when PetSmart in Sioux Falls stepped in and gave them an emergency grant of $1,500.00
"Things that we needed medically for the animals," said Rosie Quinn.
"And some toys and treats and collars and leashes so they could be adopted," said Scott Hillard, Manager of PetSmart.
Valerie Gutierrez: "One of the ways that you can help is to come to Second Chance Rescue center and walk the dogs. Many of these dogs haven't been around humans much, they're not used to being touched or walked so doing something as basic as great as that is a great way to help these animals."
Quinn says, "we're trying to socialize them. A lot of them there's five or six you can't even raise your hand to pet them."
