Chad Mechels, a Deputy for the Turner Co. Sheriff Dept., was shot and killed while he was on duty Monday, March 15, 2009.

By Associated Press

Law enforcement officers from around the state are expected to take part in Wednesday's law enforcement memorial service in Pierre.

Pierre Police Department Chaplain Mark Newton says the service
will focus on Turner County Deputy Sheriff Chad Mechels, who was
shot and killed while on duty near Marion earlier this year.

The activities include the laying of a wreath at the Capitol Lake Law Enforcement Memorial and a memorial service where Lt. Gov.
Dennis Daugaard will be the guest speaker.

I think we understand that life doesn't stand still there weed man. But, what if I was to go and kill your dad, mom, sister, brother, or kids? Would you still sit there and say life goes on a few weeks after. No, you would still be mourning, still crying, and depressed. Don't try and act all tough, you can say alot of words on here hiding behind a computer screen. You should be happy and proud that you have men and women like Mechels serving the state of South Dakota, and protecting the streets.
