Authorities have arrested a 64-year-old Cherokee man accused of trying to abduct a 12-year-old girl after school in Irwin in western Iowa.

The Shelby County sheriff's office says Marc Nelson was charged after he alleged tried to kidnap the girl on Thursday.

Nelson was taken into custody at his home on Friday. He's charged with attempted enticement of a minor and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse.

The sheriff's office says officials used information from the public to identify Nelson as a suspect.
