South Dakota Rancher Claims $232 M Powerball Jackpot

By Brian Allen

The mystery is over. Tonight we know who won the $232 million powerball jackpot in Winner, South Dakota.

He is 23 year old Neal Wanless, a Todd County rancher who lives on his family's 320 acre ranch near Winner. He bought the winning ticket last month during a trip to buy livestock feed.

Wanless will take home $88.5 million in a lump sum payment after taxes are deducted. His family had fallen behind in their taxes and had their mobile home repossessed last year. Wanless says his family has been helped by their community and that he "intends to repay that help many times over."

He says he plans to continue ranching, albeit on a larger ranch. Lottery officials say Wanless will get his money June 16th.
