Panda Buffet Closed For Food Violations

By KSFY Staff

The Panda Buffet, a Chinese buffet restaurant in Marshall, Minnesota, has been closed down by the State Health Department because of violations to the food code.

The Panda Buffet, normally a popular spot in Marshall, sits closed tonight with an "order to cease activity" notice posted clearly on the door by the Minnesota Health Department.

Spokesmen with the department aren't saying much about the closure tonight.

They told the Marshall Independent Newspaper only that it's due to "numerous violations of the food code" and that they were "serious enough to close the restaurant until they are fixed."

The department is giving no time frame for those changes to be made, and further details are being kept quiet because of the possibility of enforcement actions against the owners.

Action News attempted to contact the owners for comment tonight, but they could not be reached.

Late this afternoon, a spokeswoman from the Minnesota Department of Health told us the bottom line is that the restaurant wasn't correcting conditions that could be hazardous to our health.

My comment about seeing your food cooking was only directed at chinese food places. So not seeing your food cooked at Applebee's is not a problem. You can tell if a steak is done by cutting it open and by the temperature. If it is only luke-warm you don't eat it. Lots of buffet lines don't keep food warm or cold enough and are left out too long. Chinese food is cooked in a much different way than people here are used to, go to an Asian country and see for yourself. Take some Pepto along.

so I guess applebees, olive garden, and red lobster are in violation too cuz ya can't see your food prepared there either? Gimme a break. Every business issued a food license is under the scrutiny of their state and are being observed. I'd be more scared of eating Hardees than chinese buffet! Don't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch. BTW, has anyone seen my cat??? JK, gotta jump on the band wagon once and a while, it's all in jest.

Who is really surprised by this? It almost has to be assumed that when you go to a chinese food place you are taking a risk of some sort of food hazard. With the exception of places where you can see your food being prepared it's pretty much a crap shoot.

I grew up around Marshall. I never saw Panda Buffet as a popular spot. The food looked old and crusty and could not be trusted years ago. It is about time something is done. Never saw cars around there or many.

Probably because Marshall is in the viewing area, it is a television station for more than just Sioux Falls. They publish things about Sioux City, Aberdeen, Rapid City, etc.. so why not Marshall?
