Bible Rodeo Camp This Week

By Jim Nelson

The annual Bible Rodeo Camp is designed to teach kids ages 8-14 about the Bible and all things rodeo, from riding to roping and horsemanship to barreling. Instructor Danny Bliss says the entire staff is touched by what the kids accomplish.

"It's such an overjoy when you watch a kids heart. That appeals to everybody of all ages when you can see a child gleaming," he said.

"We can do extraordinary things in this world," said 12-year-old Kate McCoy.

That's the message the Willow Creek Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys wants to send. And this week, there are more than 100 kids doing plenty of extraordinary things.

"I've been riding ever since I was two and my mom just brainwashed me with all this horse stuff," said McCoy.

Now, ten years later, the Patrick Henry Middle School student is taking part in her third camp. There's a reason she keeps coming back.

"It's just so fun to listen about God and ride around and share common interests with other people."

McCoy says she loves the horses and loves competing.

"It's been a lot of fun going up to state for 4H each year and just accomplishing new things every day."

The camp concludes Thursday afternoon with the actual rodeo and competition. That's at 1:30 p.m. in the Expo Building at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds.

It's free and open to the public.

This is a cool thing....it clearly shows that you can have fun without swearing and being drunk at a rodeo! (Like all rodeos are) This is a GREAT thing and I hope it continues for decades to come...even tho I have never been there I know its great!! :)
