30 year old Mathew Allen Chamberlain from Brandon was arrested after police say he'd been chatting with a minor online and tried to solicit that child.
4 days earlier, police arrested 25 year old Brian Todd Bublitz of Altamont, South Dakota. He too is accused of having online chats with a minor, that police say bublitz hoped would lead to sexual contact.
Sioux Falls Police say both of these arrests came after extensive online investigations.
2 arrests in one week as a result of the work from the internet crimes against children detectives or ICAC.
Mathew Allen Chamberlain was arrested after a two week online chat investigation. Police say Chamberlain thought he was chatting with a 15 year old girl.
Sioux Falls Police also arrested 25 year old Brian Todd Bublitz who is from Altamont, South Dakota. Police say he traveled to Sioux Falls to have sexual contact with what he thought was a 13 year old girl. He posted bond and was released last Wednesday.
This afternoon, Sioux Falls Public Information Officer Sam Clemens told KSFY that the reason Bublitz's arrest was not made public last week when he was arrested was because detectives knew they were close to catching Chamberlain. Two arrests in one week is a big victory ICAC. "A lot of this depends on the conversation that takes place in the chat rooms. I think it's been a year since we had our last solicitation arrest so to have 2 of them in the last week is a little unusual," said Clemens at Police briefing this morning.
Both men are being charged with solicitation of a minor. This is a class 6 felony and Chamberlain and Bublitz could be facing as much as 6 years in the State Pen.
