$2,700 Reward in Watertown Church Burglary

By Shelby Krech

A reward for information as to who burglarized a Watertown church has been increased.

Those that attend Immaculate Conception Church have come together to offer a $2,700 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever’s responsible.

It seems those parishioners are moving forward. Father Joe Forcelle says they have already begun to repair damages. Construction workers from the church have been working on repairs and are expected to finish in a few days.

But not everything can be fixed and that includes an antique angel statue. Officers believe the burglars used it to pound at doors, thereby gaining entry. Fr. Forcelle says repairing the statue is unlikely. Imported from Italy, it’s been their possession for more than 100 years.

Despite this, Fr. Forcelle says the parish is looking past the physical damages, but having a hard time handling the emotional repercussions that the crime has had on them. He explains, “Everyone is struggling with the ‘Why?’ question… this is our home, why would somebody do this?”

According to the Watertown Police Department, the burglary occurred sometime late week. Officers say the burglars took small amount of cash, but were probably after more.
