Storm Cleanup Under Way in Menno

Tools

Cleanup is under way in the southeastern South Dakota town of Menno, after a storm that brought straight-line winds and spawned a tornado.

Residents say there's a lot of tree damage, and some damage to homes after Tuesday night's storm.

Resident Don Okrina says the 700 people in the town and area farmers are banding together to get things back in order. Red Cross volunteers also have traveled from Sioux Falls.

No injuries have been reported but there were some close calls. Resident Dale Goehring says one couple that had just returned home when the storm hit stayed in their vehicle and parked under a tree. The tree fell on the back of their vehicle, but they weren't hurt.
