Rapid City Working on Bus Driver Cell Policy

Tools

Rapid City is likely to join Sioux Falls in banning city bus drivers from using cell phones while behind the wheel.

Rapid City Public Works Director Robert Ellis says a formal rule is in the works regarding talking and texting while driving. He says it's a precautionary measure, and also will apply to people driving other city vehicles.

City transit drivers in Sioux Falls are subject to being fired if they're caught using cell phones while driving. That policy was implemented after accidents in other parts of the country involving mass transit drivers suspected of using cell phones.
