Smoking Ban Delayed, Will Go To Public Vote

By KSFY Staff

The South Dakota smoking ban will not take effect as scheduled next week because sufficient signatures have been filed to put the measure to a statewide public vote in next year's November election.

A coalition of bar and casino owners filed petition signatures Monday to refer the smoking ban to a public vote.

Secretary of State Chris Nelson says his office has determined that enough valid signatures exist to put the measure on the ballot.

The law passed earlier by the South Dakota Legislature would ban smoking in bars, Deadwood casinos and video lottery establishments. It extends a ban that has outlawed smoking in most public areas and workplaces since 2002.

You have the right to poison others ?? Is that really a right now. You are very twisted. The only right you have is to smoke in a place you can't hurt anyone but yourself but keep in mind you should not smoke around your kids either they should be able to make there own choice on that. Although I'm pretty sure watching ther e parents smoke all there lives will put them on the wrong track anyways.

We have just as much right in this country as you non smokers. So we will do what we have to do to keep our right. If you don't like it then stay home. You will see when it comes to a vote we will win again.

I don't care if they want to kill themselves by smoking but why make the people who don't smoke nor care to smoke breathe in that filth. I think that the smoking ban should go into effect. I would definitely go out more if I didn't have to smell that crap.
