Local Restaurant Thriving In Economy

By Jim Nelson

The Black Angus Bar and Grill has a lot of history in Canton. For the last 25 years, its had a lot of consistency. Louise Albers has run the place since 1984. She's seen a lot in that time and through everything, she says it's the community that's helped her stay afloat.

On July 1, 1985, Louise Albers bought the Black Angus in Canton. At the time, she had no idea what was in store.

"I told my employees; if I can make it one year, I will be really happy. And the rest, as they say, is history," Albers recalls.

It's been a remarkable run for the business, and in these tough times, they're still thriving. "In a small town, with the economy the way it is, I consider myself pretty fortunate."

But 17 years ago, Albers wasn't so fortunate. A fire burned the restaurant, and half the block it sits on. Naturally, that didn't deter her. In fact, it made the business stronger. "The people in Southeastern South Dakota and Northwest Iowa have been so good to me. There was never a doubt that I would rebuild again."

No matter what has happened in the past, or what the future might hold for Albers, this place has always been about the community.

That's apparent through her message to all that have walked through her doors. "I'd like to thank everyone for their 25 years of business. They're all great people"

It is great to hear and I would be willing to bet that Louise secret of success is that she focuses on her customers. At least that the gist I get from this article. Kudos to you, Louise, for making great place to eat. Thanks, Harold. www.sellmoremeals.com
