The American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life" is three weeks from tonight here in Sioux Falls.

The relay starts Friday night, July 24th at 6 PM and runs until 6 AM Saturday morning.

This year, the relay is being held at Sioux Falls Canaries Baseball Stadium.

Mickey Metcalf is the honorary chairwoman for this year's Sioux Falls "Relay For Life".
Her life has been touched by Cancer again and again and she says the American Cancer Society could use your help.

Mickey Metcalf's laughter is infectious and it's the result of something she has learned about life:
You're only guaranteed today....you could be gone tomorrow.

"My mother had pancreatic cancer.." Mickey's mom died two years ago.
Then, her step-mother...."She has bone marrow cancer...which affects the blood. her step-mom's Cancer is in remission.
And this month marks the 11th anniversary that Mickey herself was diagnosed with Cancer. "I had a lump in my neck which felt like a pimple or an in grown hair but it just never went away."
Doctors found a tumor in Mickey's saliva gland:
They removed it and she's been cancer free ever since.
But the fears and the doubts linger in the back of her mind: will it come back and will other family members also develop Cancer? "I think it's in the family bloodline and where we go from there I don't know."

And it's for her family, and yours, that Mickey walks in the "Relay For Life", hoping to convince as many people as possible to donate money to help the American Cancer Society in it's outreach programs and it's medical research...hoping to make Cancer a memory. "There is someone who cares and it's the American Cancer Society."
And when Mickey walks, her mom's spirit cheers her on.
Mickey's backyard is a tribute to her mom...she loved daisies...you may look at just see flowers..Mickey looks and sees the love of a mother who died too young. "She was my best friend."
