Twitter, Facebook Busy With Palin Resignation Buzz

As we mentioned, Palin's resignation generated plenty of buzz today but it also had plenty of you twittering.

The news hit as many people were on the move for the holiday weekend... which is why they turned to online forums to share their thoughts and speculation.

Many times when there's big political news people will come to their barber shop, favorite bar, or even local coffee house to talk politics. Well today we found many of them online on Facebook or Twitter

Within minutes of her announcement that she'd be leaving her state's top seat, our search for Palin 'Tweets' found many hits here in South Dakota

Almost immediately the speculation was on...

"Perhaps someone is eyeing a large white house" popped up on a post from KCFS, the University of Sioux Falls' college radio station...

Of course some wonder if this is the time to be getting out for someone who might have higher political ambitions... a Yankton resident and Sioux falls Fative wrote "color me confused. can't Palin remain governor and mount a campaign? Doesn't recent history show that governors can do both?"

Many of the posts we found figured that there was a deeper reason for the sudden resignation. I asked a Sioux Falls resident what he thought the next move was and he told me "Who knows? But you don't pull out of your first term as governor early for no reason at all."

And her speech left some, like Darren Weisz, just scratcthing their heads. "Watching Palin governor resignation speech. I am confused."

Sarah Palin is indicative of just how nutty the entire GOP has become. Palin, like most modern Republicans, is not a Goldwater-esque conservative. She is closer to an evangelical dominionist -- out to set up the U.S. government as an instrument of "God's dominion" on Earth. Those folks compete for attention in the Republican Party with devotees of Ayn Rand's objectivist movement -- which is an ideology so radical that its followers are opposed to outlawing child labor. Scary folks.
