Smoking Ban Supporters Try Stopping Public Vote

By KSFY Staff

Those for a statewide smoking ban are trying to prevent it from going to a public vote. They've filed paperwork, trying to get the Secretary Of State to agree that not enough petition signatures were filed.

If they can convince him, the ban on smoking in bars and casinos will become law.

People in Sioux Falls have differing opinions about the statewide smoking ban. No matter what side of the fence you're on, one things for sure, only time will tell what happens.

Smoke from a handful of crushed leaves and some paper that is mixed with the air of a decently ventilated venue is harmful to your health?? If anybody believes that, then I have some ocean-front property in Ohio I would like to sell them

Dave Hitt said name three. No on yet has been able to name three who have died due ti SHS. The largest and longest studies agreed there was no connection of SHS to both Cancer or Heart Disease. These studies where by the ACS and the WHO. THEY HVE BEEN DENYING IT EVER SINCE.

This push for Smoking Bans, higher taxes on Tobacco products and regulation by the FDA has been all a part of the Marketing Plan for Smoking Cessation Products. Anyone who can't see this as the true agenda are just fooling themselves or outright lying. It has been the true target in every move that has been made for the last 30 or more years. The method is simple. If you lie about anything 24/7 in the media, even the most outrageous lie will become the truth as far as the public is concerned..

Ohio lost 313 bars in 2007 after the smoking ban. 5,400 people lost their jobs. Permit holders lost approx. 67.4 million in sales. Smoking bans kill small businesses and jobs! Leave things as they are.

Throwing around charges of "undemocratic" and "fascist" are just the scare tactics of those whose "signatures" may have been fraudulently obtained. These people would have happily stood shoulder to shoulder with those who subverted democracy over the centuries.

All smokers need to do is change to electric cigarettes, this really gets non smokers mad as hell. They are legal in all places because they do not have second hand smoke. You get the nicotine without the bad stuff. I got mine at crown7, but there are others out there.

I think Daren Smith and the SD tobaco free kids network are scared this thing will fail at the polls. If it does go into effect because of invalid signatures, guaranted there will be another petition. This will be voted on eventually. How many times have we voted on video lottery and abortion?

2/3 of South Dakota voters want the ban, why spend the $ that nobody has to find the same results if we can get the ban through now then it will save the people of SD lots of money for the same results. Stop the delay and get it done. EVERYONE KNOWS IT JUST A DELAY

The voters of Ohio were lied to on their ballot by being promised exemptions, only to have them removed when the ban took effect. These ban zealots will do ANYTHING to get social control.

A public safety/personal choice decision like this is exactly why we have a system that puts these issues up to public vote. If they want to spend some anti-smoking dollars, do it on ads for the vote, not trying to block someone else's constituitional rights

Trying to stop a democratic vote by the public on a topic which will affect their lives and the businesses futures is a clear example of the fascism of the anti everything lobby. These people would have happily stood shoulder to shoulder with those who persecuted minorities over the centuries.
