Rep. Emmer Joins GOP Field in 2010 Governor's Race

Tools

Three-term Republican state Rep. Tom Emmer is getting into next year's race for Minnesota governor.

Emmer, of Delano, officially declared his candidacy Monday. He joins a field that's been growing by the week since incumbent Gov. Tim Pawlenty announced he wouldn't run for a another term.

Both leading parties have wide-open races for their respective nominations and the Independence Party could be competitive as well.

The 48-year-old Emmer is an attorney. He says he would work on slimming a government bureaucracy that he says has grown too large
over the last couple of decades.
