President Obama And Russia's President Make Arms Deal

President Barack Obama and Russia's President strike a deal Monday for a nuclear arms agreement. They hope the agreement will set an example for the rest of the world.

Both leaders signed a deal today that will reduce their nations' stockpiles of nuclear warheads to as few as 1500 each.

That number aimes toward the lowest levels of any US-Russia arms control agreement. The document signed today is meant to be a guide for negotiators as the nations work toward a replacement pact for the "start" arms control agreement that expires in December.

The leaders also announced several other deals meant to show progress toward resettling badly damaged US-Russian relations. One example is Moscow will allow the U.S. to transport arms across its land and airspace into Afghanistan for the war there.

The leaders also outlined ways to work together to help stabilize afghanistan. President Obama hopes Russia will help pressure Iran and North Korea to give up their nuclear weapons ambitions.
