Aberdeen's city council is looking for federal funds to improve flood control on Moccasin Creek.

Tonight the Aberdeen city council will discuss Moccasin Creek which runs through the city of Aberdeen. The creek has caused flooding concerns for people living nearby and the city keeps applying for money to make improvements. So far, those requests have been denied.

The city of Aberdeen has not been able to secure enough funds to study the creek, it's movement, and make improvements. People living along the creek say something has to be done eventually.

Hyle Anderson likes to gaze at the creek from his backyard but he probably wouldn't suggest a close up.

"The water looks awfully polluted and discolored. I really wonder what drains into the creek from any direction let alone the water from in town."

Back in March when the water threatened to flood homes and residents were busy sandbagging, the idea of studying the creek came up once again. The water in the creek is stagnant and officials want to see if fresh water can be pumped in.

"I don't know what they can do to get it to flow a little more. That might be quite expensive, but in the meantime they should look into it and see what they can do."

Hyle likes to speculate about the possibilities.

"I understand years ago that they used to really enjoy the water, boating and even swimming which would be almost unheard of today."
