People in South Dakota are remembering Michael Jackson through a tribute in downtown Sioux Falls.
The tribute features images of a model dressed as the 'King of Pop.' They're displayed in a streetside window at the Hugo Sarmiento shop at 333 S. Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls. It's curator, Hugo Sarmiento, organized the tribute to Jackson shortly after he died.
But amazingly, he started the project well before Jackson passed away. They were originally published months ago in Sioux Falls-based LX Magazine. The story was shot a year and a half before Jackson died. An Italian model dressed as Jackson, donning some of the artists classic looks.
Sonja Roberts, a beauty editor for LX Magazine and make-up artist in New York City, had the idea to honor Jackson when nobody else was talking about him. She said, "I thought that it was very interesting to do something on someone who was so contorversial because everyone, like I said, only speaks about the way he looks. So, I said, okay, let's take it."
Roberts and Sarmiento hope their tribute to the pop icon will help people focus on the positive parts of Jackson's life.
"I mean we have to forget about his personal life. We are not honoring him because of his personal life," said Sarmiento. "We are honoring him because of his talent as a musician and what he contributed to society."
Don't expect the tribute to go away anytime soon. Sarmiento said, "It will be up for as long as we have to keep it up because I think there is no length of time for mourning."
At the same time, Sarmiento plans on adding to the ambiance of the the tribute by adding speakers, which will play some of Jackson's best known songs.
