Wind, Rain, Hail Hit Parkston

Parkston, South Dakota, residents had to deal with down trees and some flooding from last night's storm. The damage was evident by anyone just simply driving through town. The clean up in Parkston this morning looked a bit like some kind of green Christmas in July, but Dr. Mark Werning says these present were unwelcome, "so we got lots of damage and I was using our snow shovel to get leaves off the driveway." All over town, limbs and in some cases entire trees littered yards. "The wind came in at about 60-70 miles per hour as it took some of our trees, but i'm thinking that the hail was worst part of it."

By the time Mark Hammers arrived, that hail was washed away along with much more thanks to street flooding creating at least one more unwelcome surprise. "Today's garbage day on our side of town, and we had them all set up here but they all tipped over and started floating down the street because the water is probably like a foot deep in the gutters."

There were some scary moments. One woman we talked to saw a tree go down and crop damage.
