Close Call With Massive Evergreen In Parkston

By KSFY Staff

The town of Parkston was also hit hard by early morning storms on Thursday. Lillian Fuerst has seen a lot of storms roll through the town and says this was one of the worst. She says, "I was up about four o'clock and looked out west and I saw it was lightning and I thought well, we will probably just get a shower, but it added up to much more."

For Lillian, that meant a close call with a massive sixty foot evergreen. It was her neighbor for nearly 40 years and today she said it went quietly. Lillian says, "I was standing at the door and it laid over gently not with a flop." That was about the only thing that went gently. Crops were pummeled, tree limbs littered town and signs of property damage were everywhere.

Parkston resident Doug Borman says, "the garage door was actually blown off of the buildings that we do own, so it's some major damage." Add a little flash flooding and Lillian says it is the worst she's seen, but she is not about to complain. She says, "I am greatful that it wasn't a tornado, otherwise I may not have a roof on my house or anything else"
