Herseth Sandlin's Take On Re-election

This past week South Dakota's lone representative Stephanie Herseth Sandlin announced she would seek reelection to the US House in 2010.

She told Action News she's excited to continue serving as South Dakota's independent voice in the House of Representatives. She admits she went back and forth on whether to pursue other political opportunities, such as South Dakota Governor, but feels great about the decision.

She told Action News "I feel that this decision to seek re-election is not only the best for my continued service for South Dakota and the priorities that will advance our economy and are important to South Dakotans and their businesses and their families, but it also matches up with what I strongly believe is best for my family at this time."

Her family includes her husband Max and their nearly 7 month old son Zachary. The congresswoman says she's proud of what's been accomplished such as the underground science laboratory, Ellsworth and area water projects. "I feel over the past 5 years we've laid a lot of groundwork on advancing those issues, we've made a lot of progress, but there's more work to be done."

Though Herseth Sandlin spends a lot of time with her immediate family in Washington DC, she says she also treasures the time she gets to spend back here in South Dakota with her extended family.

I feel as if the relection of Herseth-Sandlin would not be in the interest of South Dakota, specifically EastRiver.
