Crow Creek School Educator Sentenced In SchemeThe last of seven people charged in a 55-count money laundering scheme at the Crow Creek Tribal School in Stephen has been sentenced. Patsy Hawk of Mission earlier pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of embezzlement and one count of theft. The former assistant CEO was sentenced Friday to $1,806 in restitution, a $500 fine, 50 hours of community service and two years of probation. The case involved kickbacks and money laundering as contractors sought work for reconstruction of the school's dormitory and kitchen, which burned down in 2005. Other defendants include: John Nystrom of Pierre, Scott Raue of Fort Pierre, Richard Baysinger of Artesian, Edwin Patzer of Pierre, Brady Hastings of Huron and Royal Kutz of Highmore.
