Sioux Falls Mom Gives Up Driving

Tools

By Cliff Chandler

One person is dead after a van collided with a guardrail on the Madison Street, Interstate-29 on-ramp early Wednesday afternoon.

Two men from Sioux Falls were in the van. The driver was injured and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. No names have been released and it seems the driver somehow lost control of the vehicle.

We opened the topic of driving in Sioux Falls on our facebook and heard from one woman, who's given up driving all together. Nita Ihnen is a mother of one, who after getting rear-ended by a man text messaging on her cell phone, stopped driving on Sioux Falls streets.

"You know it's the other drivers I feel I have to watch out for 'cause they're either talking on the phone, texting on the phone, eating, you know, stuff like that, while they're driving," said Ihnen.

The Sioux Falls Police Department maintains some statistics, as to how drivers are doing on the road and they include:

Sioux Falls Police Statistics
Crashes 2008 4,555 2009 4,293 -5.7%

Speeding Tickets

2008 5,107 2009 5,899 +15.5%
Stoplight Tickets

2008

Stop Sign Tickets 2008 260 2009 374 +43.8%
