Differing Gas Prices in and around Miller

By KSFY Staff

A lot of us drive for our jobs or to get away and it's why we keep such a close eye on gas prices. One man near Miller wanted us to look into why gas prices there seem so much higher than surrounding towns. He says gas in Miller is selling at $2.69 a gallon, while in neighboring Wessington is sells for $2.55 and in Huron, he says gas is at $2.52.

There are three gas stations in Miller, we checked with all three and they say fluctuating wholesale prices, the price gas stations pay for gas, is partially to blame. We did some checking and found often times, rural gas stations have to pay more to get gasoline trucked in from local pipelines and refineries; where larger cities like Sioux Falls are typically closer to those pipelines that fill the pumps.

We also checked with AAA to see what average gas prices are in our region. We found South Dakota leading the way at $2.52 a gallon. Iowa was next at $2.41 with Minnesota bringing up the rear at $2.40 a gallon.

I believe at the time for NL it was 2.58 in wessington and 2.74 in Miller. But funny thing after someone checks it out prices drop to within a penny of other prices

Think it is called greed! It don't cost 16 cents more a gallon to send it to Miller than it does wessinton 12 miles apart!
