An Aberdeen family is devastated because right now it looks like they will lose their home to flood water.
The Lopes's live seven miles outside of Aberdeen and say they would like the county to step in and help. The recent heavy rain is causing the situation to go from bad to worse and the Lopes's may have to move out.
William and Heather Lopes walk through flood water that surrounds their home and with more rain coming down they say they feel hopeless.
"Basically I look at everything I have worked for, all the money me and my wife have been able to save up as a young couple just to get established in the community. It's something my wife wanted. We thought it would be a good idea to raise our family out here. To look at it now is really heartbreaking."
The Lopes's talked to the county commissioners about hauling water off the property but the county says that is not feasible right now.
"As far as actually collecting the water that was talked about. They felt like there wouldn't be enough water hauled out to help the situation long term," says Gary Vetter, the Brown County Planning And Zoning Director.
The Lopes's home is on a low wetland and the county says they are looking at efforts to prevent flooding in the area such as building a dike.
The county has provided the Lopes's with FEMA contacts but William says he hopes something can be done now.
"Any action would be effective. Any gallon of water that I don't have to pick my kids up and walk them through and take my wife through would be a help, anything, anything at this point."
