SD Communities Gear Up For Halloween

Because Halloween falls on a Saturday this year; we'll probably see a little bit more activity. Some events are catered to everyone and some are for the big kids in all of us. But one thing's for sure; its still a night for the kids.

"It's always kind of fun to see the kids come in in their costumes and the parents trying to herd all the little kids around. It's a lot of fun," says Paavo Rasmussen of the Old Courthouse Museum.

There will be a lot of that this weekend; kids running wild, looking for tricks and treats. While there area number of events lined up, perhaps one of the more kid friendly is at the old courthouse museum.

"We have some spooky stories told by a local storyteller and a costume contest as well for the kids to come in a try to give out a few prizes. You know, the cutest costume, scariest costume and things like that," Rasmussen says. But that is just a small portion of the event which runs from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. There will be trick or treating, a skeleton scavenger hunt and a kids crafts period, all of which is aimed simply at getting the kids out.

"To try to get kids to the museum and have a good time," Rasmussen explains. Which in turn, he thinks will provide the kids exposure and understanding of museums and what their benefit can ultimately be.
